Privacy Policy

Last updated: June 24, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how local ("we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, shares, and protects your information across two things: this waitlist website, and the Local mobile app (together, the "Service"). Local is a personalized restaurant- and dish-recommendation service for Los Angeles.

The short version. On the website, the only thing we collect is the email you give us to join the waitlist. In the app, we collect what's needed to recommend places for you, your phone number, your taste and dietary preferences, and (with your permission) your location. We don't sell your data, we don't run ads or behavioral-tracking SDKs, and you can ask us to delete your data any time at info@eatwithlocal.com.

Throughout this policy we tag sections so you can see what applies to you: Website applies if you only join the waitlist; App applies once you use the Local app.

1. Who we are

The Service is operated by local, an early-stage product being built for the Los Angeles area in the United States. This website is a pre-launch waitlist; the Local app is our personalized recommendation product. For any privacy question or request, contact info@eatwithlocal.com. The Service is intended for users 13 and older and is not directed to children under 13 (see Section 8).

2. Information we collect

Website When you join the waitlist

App Information you provide

App Information collected automatically

Across both the website and the app, we do not use third-party advertising, analytics, or behavioral-tracking SDKs (no Google Analytics, Segment, Amplitude, or Meta SDKs), and the website sets no tracking cookies.

3. How we use your information

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with third parties for their own marketing.

4. How your information is shared

We share information only as described here. Our service providers process data on our behalf and are not permitted to use it for their own purposes:

Group plans. If you organize a plan, the people you invite can see the plan and the aggregated group preferences. If you join a plan, the organizer and other participants may see your display name and the preferences you submit. Don't put anything in a plan you don't want other participants to see.

We may also disclose information if required by law or legal process, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of our users, the public, or us. If we're ever involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may transfer as part of that transaction; we'll note any change of ownership here.

5. Data retention

6. Your privacy rights

Depending on where you live, you may have some or all of these rights:

California (CCPA/CPRA): the categories we collect are identifiers (phone, email, name), precise geolocation, and sensitive personal information (precise location; dietary/health-related preferences), collected for the purposes in Section 3. We do not sell or "share" personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising, so there's nothing to opt out of there. EU/UK/EEA (GDPR): our legal bases are your consent (location and optional profile fields), performance of a contract (providing the Service), and legitimate interests (security and improvement); you may withdraw consent and complain to your supervisory authority.

To exercise any right, use the in-app controls (edit profile, clear chat history, delete account) or email info@eatwithlocal.com from the address or phone number on your account. We'll verify and respond within the time required by applicable law.

7. How we protect your information

Your information is transmitted over encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS) and stored with our hosting provider under access controls. The waitlist list, for example, can be added to but not read back through the public website key. We are continuing to strengthen safeguards as the app moves toward launch. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

8. Children's privacy

The Service is intended for users 13 and older and is not directed to children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their personal information. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us information, contact us and we'll delete it.

9. Data location and international transfers

The Service and its providers store and process data in the United States. If you access the Service from outside the U.S., you understand your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States.

10. Third-party content

The Service shows information about restaurants, menus, and dishes drawn from public sources and our own analysis; those names, menus, and facts belong to their respective owners. The Service is provided for informational purposes, always confirm allergen and dietary information directly with the restaurant. We're not responsible for the accuracy of third-party information or for your dining decisions.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we'll update the "Last updated" date above and, for the app, notify you in-app or by other reasonable means. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.

12. Contact

Questions, access requests, or deletions: info@eatwithlocal.com.

This policy is provided in good faith and is not legal advice. Because the app handles precise location and dietary/health-related information, we recommend a licensed attorney review it before the app's public launch.
