Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 24, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how local ("we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, shares, and protects your information across two things: this waitlist website, and the Local mobile app (together, the "Service"). Local is a personalized restaurant- and dish-recommendation service for Los Angeles.
Throughout this policy we tag sections so you can see what applies to you: Website applies if you only join the waitlist; App applies once you use the Local app.
1. Who we are
The Service is operated by local, an early-stage product being built for the Los Angeles area in the United States. This website is a pre-launch waitlist; the Local app is our personalized recommendation product. For any privacy question or request, contact info@eatwithlocal.com. The Service is intended for users 13 and older and is not directed to children under 13 (see Section 8).
2. Information we collect
Website When you join the waitlist
- Email address you submit in the waitlist form, the only thing we ask for;
- Signup context stored with it to limit spam and understand demand: the referring page (if any), your browser's user-agent string, and a timestamp.
App Information you provide
- Phone number, your account identifier and how we send your one-time login code (OTP).
- Name, email, and profile photo (optional), to personalize your profile and for account communication.
- Taste & dietary profile, cuisines, vibes, and venues you like or want to avoid; dietary restrictions and food allergies (e.g. vegetarian, vegan, halal, kosher, gluten-free, dairy-free, nut allergies), including a cross-contact sensitivity level; and any free-text notes you add.
- Chat messages and feedback, what you type to the in-app assistant, and your reactions to recommendations (e.g. thumbs up/down, "too spicy," "wrong vibe").
- Saved places and visit history, spots you bookmark and the places we've recommended to you over time.
- Group planning info, if you organize or join a group dining plan, the plan details, the names and phone numbers of people you invite, and each participant's submitted preferences (cuisine, budget, dietary needs, allergies, notes).
App Information collected automatically
- Precise location (GPS). With your permission, we use your device location to find and rank nearby restaurants and center the map. We request it only while you're using the app (foreground) and do not track you in the background.
- Device, usage, and server logs, basic technical data needed to run the Service, including request timestamps and rate-limiting signals; logs may include your phone number and request metadata for security and debugging.
Across both the website and the app, we do not use third-party advertising, analytics, or behavioral-tracking SDKs (no Google Analytics, Segment, Amplitude, or Meta SDKs), and the website sets no tracking cookies.
3. How we use your information
- Website To notify you when local launches or opens its beta in your area, send occasional pre-launch updates, and gauge demand by neighborhood;
- App To authenticate and secure your account;
- App To generate and personalize restaurant and dish recommendations from your preferences, dietary needs, location, saved places, and chat history, and to power the in-app assistant's memory across conversations;
- App To run group dining plans you create or join;
- App To improve recommendation quality using your feedback;
- To maintain security, integrity, and reliability (rate limiting and abuse prevention), and to communicate with you about your account and the Service.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with third parties for their own marketing.
4. How your information is shared
We share information only as described here. Our service providers process data on our behalf and are not permitted to use it for their own purposes:
- Supabase, database, hosting, and authentication. Stores the waitlist, and (for the app) your profile, preferences, chat history, feedback, and group-plan data. Hosted in the United States.
- Anthropic (Claude) App, powers the chat assistant and recommendation reasoning. To generate a response we send your message text, recent conversation history, your preference/dietary profile, and (when available) your location. This data is used only to produce your response and is not used to train Anthropic's models.
- Twilio (via Supabase) App, sends your one-time login code to your phone number.
- Google Maps Platform / Google Places, provides restaurant locations, hours, place details, and photos used in the Service.
- Google Fonts Website, this site loads fonts from Google, so your browser contacts Google and Google may see your IP address as part of serving them. We don't send your email to Google.
Group plans. If you organize a plan, the people you invite can see the plan and the aggregated group preferences. If you join a plan, the organizer and other participants may see your display name and the preferences you submit. Don't put anything in a plan you don't want other participants to see.
We may also disclose information if required by law or legal process, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of our users, the public, or us. If we're ever involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may transfer as part of that transaction; we'll note any change of ownership here.
5. Data retention
- Website We keep your waitlist email until the waitlist has served its purpose (launch) or you ask us to delete it.
- App We keep your profile, preferences, and saved places until you delete them or your account. Chat history is retained to provide context and can be cleared from the app at any time. Visit history is limited to your most recent places. When you delete your account, we delete your profile and chat history; feedback and group-plan records tied to shared plans may be retained in de-identified or aggregated form to keep those plans working and to improve the Service.
6. Your privacy rights
Depending on where you live, you may have some or all of these rights:
- Access, request a copy of the information we hold about you;
- Correction, fix inaccurate information (you can edit most of this in the app);
- Deletion, request deletion of your personal information;
- Opt out of marketing, ask us to stop emailing you;
- Limit sensitive data, ask us to limit use of sensitive information (precise location, dietary/health-related data) to what's needed to provide the Service;
- Non-discrimination, we won't discriminate against you for exercising rights.
California (CCPA/CPRA): the categories we collect are identifiers (phone, email, name), precise geolocation, and sensitive personal information (precise location; dietary/health-related preferences), collected for the purposes in Section 3. We do not sell or "share" personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising, so there's nothing to opt out of there. EU/UK/EEA (GDPR): our legal bases are your consent (location and optional profile fields), performance of a contract (providing the Service), and legitimate interests (security and improvement); you may withdraw consent and complain to your supervisory authority.
To exercise any right, use the in-app controls (edit profile, clear chat history, delete account) or email info@eatwithlocal.com from the address or phone number on your account. We'll verify and respond within the time required by applicable law.
7. How we protect your information
Your information is transmitted over encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS) and stored with our hosting provider under access controls. The waitlist list, for example, can be added to but not read back through the public website key. We are continuing to strengthen safeguards as the app moves toward launch. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
8. Children's privacy
The Service is intended for users 13 and older and is not directed to children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their personal information. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us information, contact us and we'll delete it.
9. Data location and international transfers
The Service and its providers store and process data in the United States. If you access the Service from outside the U.S., you understand your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States.
10. Third-party content
The Service shows information about restaurants, menus, and dishes drawn from public sources and our own analysis; those names, menus, and facts belong to their respective owners. The Service is provided for informational purposes, always confirm allergen and dietary information directly with the restaurant. We're not responsible for the accuracy of third-party information or for your dining decisions.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we'll update the "Last updated" date above and, for the app, notify you in-app or by other reasonable means. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.
12. Contact
Questions, access requests, or deletions: info@eatwithlocal.com.
This policy is provided in good faith and is not legal advice. Because the app handles precise location and dietary/health-related information, we recommend a licensed attorney review it before the app's public launch.
